“Welcome home” takes on a new meaning

March 27, 2014

Dr. Andrew Clark, a North Carolina university professor and bioengineer, has developed a prototype of door mat that will make your gadgets go bonkers. SmartMat is a new Wi-Fi floor man that when activated by a stepping on it, turns on selected electronics in your home.

Dr. Clark has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund his project and produce larger quantities. “If you have ever come home with your hands too full to flip the light switch, or wondered if your kids actually came straight home from school, then SmartMat is the product for you,” wrote Dr. Clark on his Kickstarter page. “SmartMat is a Kickstarter project that goes under door mats to triggers certain actions when pressure triggered. You can program it to send you a text when your kids walk in, turn on the lights when you get home, or even turn on the TV when someone sits on the couch.”
